2021 is running to an end. We are almost a year into Brexit, and a lot has happened since then. An increasing number of companies are getting used to the new situation and can trade between the European Union and the United Kingdom. Still, there are many companies that have no clear picture of what they need to do to successfully trade between the European Union and the United Kingdom. 

When you import goods into the Netherlands from the United Kingdom, it is no longer possible to make an import declaration before the goods have been unloaded. There is a new import procedure called Container Vrijgave Bericht (CVB), which translates into Container Release Message.

The United Kingdom’s Minister of State, David Frost, announced that the United Kingdom is delaying implementing certain border controls. This is not the first time dates of implementation have been pushed back.

The trade deal between the European Union and the United Kingdom has had a big impact on companies on both sides of the English Channel. Companies on both sides now need to file customs declarations.

Since January 1 2021 the United Kingdom is no longer a part of the European Union, which means it is also no longer part of the EU’s Single Market and Customs Union.  

With Brexit almost one and a half month underway we are seeing hiccups in the flows of goods between the European Union and the United Kingdom.
